Install your tukango eSIM in one tap!
When you buy an eSIM from tukango, we send you an automatic install link via email and SMS. Just tap the link on your phone and the eSIM installs itself — no QR code scanning needed.
Prefer manual setup? Follow the guide below.
This guide walks you through installing a tukango eSIM on your Google Pixel using the QR code method. The Pixel flow is slightly different from iPhone or Samsung, so follow these steps carefully.
Before you begin
- Compatible Pixel: Google Pixel 3 or later (Pixel 3, 3a, 4, 4a, 5, 5a, 6, 6a, 6 Pro, 7, 7a, 7 Pro, 8, 8a, 8 Pro, 9, 9 Pro)
- Android version: Android 9 (Pie) or later — most current Pixels run Android 14 or 15
- WiFi connection: Required for installation
- Unlocked device: Must not be carrier-locked
- QR code ready: From your tukango email or dashboard
Installation steps
Open Settings
Tap the Settings app on your Pixel home screen or app drawer.
Navigate to SIMs
Go to Network & internet → SIMs. On Android 12+, this is the new central place for managing both physical and eSIM profiles.
Tap "Add SIM"
You'll see your existing physical SIM (if any) listed. Tap + Add SIM at the bottom.
Choose "Download a SIM instead?"
The Pixel will first ask if you want to use a physical SIM. Tap Download a SIM instead? at the bottom of the screen.
Tap "Next" and scan
Follow the prompt to Next, then point your camera at the QR code from your tukango email or dashboard. The code is detected automatically.
Confirm activation
Review the plan details and tap Activate or Download. Wait a few seconds for the profile to install.
Name your SIM (optional)
Pixel asks you to give the eSIM a label. Choose something memorable like "tukango Travel" so you can find it later.
Set as data line
You'll be asked which SIM to use for cellular data. Choose your tukango eSIM. Keep your primary SIM for calls and texts.
After installation
Enable Data Roaming: Go to Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → tap your tukango eSIM → toggle Roaming on.
Verify your setup:
- ✓tukango eSIM appears in Settings → Network & internet → SIMs
- ✓Roaming is enabled for the tukango line
- ✓Mobile data is set to use the tukango line
- ✓Primary SIM still handles calls and SMS
Troubleshooting
Make sure your Pixel is unlocked from its original carrier. Locked Pixels (especially Verizon variants) sometimes hide the Add SIM option entirely. Contact Google support or your carrier to unlock.
Restart the phone, ensure stable WiFi, and try again. If the error persists, use the manual entry option with the SM-DP+ address from your tukango email instead of the QR code.
Toggle airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off. Make sure Roaming is enabled. Restart the phone after landing at your destination.
