Sometimes your phone connects to a partner network that doesn't fully support your tukango plan, leaving you with weak signal or no data even though the bars say "connected." Here's how to switch to the right network.
Why wrong-network problems happen
When you arrive in a new country, your phone scans for available cellular networks and picks one automatically. It doesn't always pick the best one — sometimes it grabs the first signal it finds, which might be:
- A roaming partner with limited coverage
- An older 3G-only network
- A carrier whose agreement with tukango doesn't include data
The fix is to manually pick the right operator from the list.
Find the right network
Each tukango plan lists the supported local networks on the product page. Common examples:
- United States: T-Mobile, AT&T
- Saudi Arabia: STC, Mobily, Zain
- Turkey: Turkcell, Vodafone, Türk Telekom
- United Kingdom: EE, Vodafone, O2, Three
- Japan: NTT Docomo, SoftBank, KDDI
Open your order confirmation email or the destination page on tukango.com to see the official list.
Manual network selection
iPhone
- Open Settings → Cellular
- Tap your tukango line
- Tap Network Selection
- Toggle Automatic OFF
- Wait for the list of networks to appear (10-30 seconds)
- Tap one of the operators listed in your tukango plan
- Wait for the connection to register
Samsung Galaxy
- Open Settings → Connections → Mobile networks
- Tap Network operators
- Tap Search networks (this can take a minute)
- Pick a network that matches your tukango plan
Google Pixel
- Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs
- Tap your tukango eSIM
- Tap Mobile network
- Uncheck Automatically select network
- Pick a network from the list
After selection
- Wait 30-60 seconds for full registration
- Test your connection by opening a web page
- If the new network also doesn't work, return to the list and try the next one
Troubleshooting
Your tukango eSIM may not have authentication permission yet. Restart the phone and try again. Make sure Data Roaming is ON.
That carrier doesn't have a roaming agreement with your tukango plan. Pick a different one from the list.
Contact tukango support with your location and the country you're in. There may be a temporary outage or a coverage gap in your specific area.
